Rosie the Riveter Trust is seeking a part-time Retail & Visitor Experience Associate to manage our Visitor Education Center Gift Shop at Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside the National Park Service while helping share the stories of the women and communities who transformed America during World War II.
Key responsibilities include:
• Managing gift shop and Shopify sales (in-person and online)
• Creating engaging merchandise displays
• Inventory management and vendor coordination
• Welcoming visitors and enhancing their experience
• Supporting volunteers and National Park Service staff
• Driving membership and retail sales
• Assisting with special events and promotions
We're looking for someone with:

✔ An interest in history, education, and community impact
Bonus points for experience with nonprofits, volunteer management, social media, graphic design, photography, or National Parks.

Schedule: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week (100% in-person)

Retail & Visitor Experience Associate
OVERVIEW:
Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park is a US National Park in Richmond, California, preserving the legacy of the American home front during World War II. It highlights the pivotal role women, known as "Rosie the Riveters" played in war industries, among others. The park's Visitor Education Center offers interactive exhibits and programs exploring the stories of the Home Front and its innovations.
Rosie the Riveter Trust supports the park’s mission by funding educational programs and amplifying stories of social change during WWII.
THE ROLE:
The Retail Associate and National Park Liaison is responsible for the daily management of the Visitor Education Center Gift Shop, including both brick-and-mortar and online operations. This role serves as an important link between Rosie the Riveter Trust, the National Park Service, and park visitors. The ideal candidate will drive membership and sales, enhance the customer experience, and uphold the organization's mission by being present in the reception area and selling a product line that authentically celebrates the Rosie the Riveter legacy and Home Front stories. This position reports to the Communications and Marketing Manager.
Part time is 20 hours a week maximum. It is 100% in person at the National Park Visitor Center. Duties include:
Trust and Park Relations
- Represent the Trust at the Park Visitor Center and foster a strong partnership with the National Park Service to enhance the visitor experience.
- Maintain efficient point-of-sale systems for both in-store and online sales in Shopify.
- Provide ongoing support to the National Park Service through regular on-site presence at the Visitor Education Center.
- Train Staff, and volunteers Park Service staff on sales procedures, using the POS on personal cell phones at events, Trust policies, and membership programs.
- Recruit, schedule, and manage volunteers to support Gift Shop operations.
- Maintain open communication with the Trust and Park Service through regular meetings.
Product, Sales, and Merchandising
- Regularly update merchandise displays and signage for optimal visitor experience.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels. Make and track orders, restocking, and fulfillment. Utilize Shopify to track online and offline sales, manage online shipping and handling orders, and maintain accurate product listings and an adequate supply of packaging.
- Make note of book and product requests.
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure product quality and delivery.
- Ensure accurate and timely recordkeeping in Shopify.
Marketing & Development
- Work in conjunction with the Communications and Marketing and Development teams on promotions.
- Schedule and execute special sales and marketing promotions.
- Support events by providing store/sales presence.
- Manage and create other communication as needed.
- Support Trust events and other tasks as needed including annual fundraising Gala, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Shopify
- Retail experience
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with the POS
- Ability to understand a P&L, COGS, and follow a budget
- Ability to lead and manage others to help run the store (NPS Rangers, docents and volunteers)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with diverse audiences, including customers, colleagues, and vendors. Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships
- Initiative, proactive problem-solving and organizational skills. Flexibility to roll up sleeves or think strategically.

- Experience and/or interest working with nonprofits or at a National Park. We are a collaborative team dedicated to the spirit of tackling new challenges together.
- Volunteer Recruitment.
- Eye for aesthetics – analog or digital. Graphic design skill to make signage, display and image production. Photography. Product design.
- Social media marketing or an interest in learning.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The position is non-exempt, 20 hours per week, including some evenings and a weekend day on occasion. Hourly pay or salary is based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications. Benefits are not included.
