THE LAST SURVIOR
SS Red Oak Victory is the last surviving vessel of 747 ships of all types built at the Richmond Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. She continues to serve today as a museum ship and as a monument to the thousands of men and women who worked hard to build these ships in a time of national crisis.
The SS Red Oak Victory is also one of the last surviving World War II Victory ships. These ships, along with their cousins the Liberty ships, were built on an emergency basis to carry vital supplies and troops to all theaters of war.
The Victory ships remain today as a symbol of the national resolve and industrial might that won the Second World War.
WHY DOES SHE NEED REVIVAL?
The Red Oak Victory Ship is a treasured piece of history, a living symbol of Richmond’s role in World War II. However, after decades exposed to the elements, she requires ongoing renewal projects to maintain her structural integrity and historical authenticity.
To keep her afloat and looking her best, essential repairs, preservation efforts, and cosmetic restorations are needed.
As part of our 25th Anniversary initiatives, these projects ensure that the Red Oak Victory continues to educate and inspire future generations.

By investing in her upkeep, we honor the legacy of the women who built her and secure her place as a landmark of American resilience and ingenuity.

Whether through hands-on work, innovation, or activism, Modern Day Rosies embody the same resilience, determination, and teamwork that made their predecessors legendary.
BUILT BY WOMEN THEN, RENEWED BY WOMEN NOW!
Modern Day Rosies answer the call to do this vital and important work! In partnership with the International Boilermakers Local Union 549 from Pittsburg, CA and other Trade organizations, this renewal project is just getting off the ground.
The Modern Day Rosies carry forward the spirit of the original World War II Rosies—trailblazing women who stepped up to build the ships, planes, and infrastructure that fueled the war effort. They are welders and leaders in their communities. They advocate for equity, mentor the next generation, and preserve the stories of the past while shaping the future.
