A Historic Journey: Honoring the Rosies at the Nation's Capital
On April 10th, an extraordinary chapter in American history was honored as 27 of our beloved "Rosies" were brought to the Capitol in Washington, DC to receive the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal. To watch a recording of the ceremony, click here!
These incredible women, known for their emblematic role during World War II, finally received the recognition they so richly deserve. The celebrations began at San Francisco International Airport where United Airlines organized a rally and a wonderful send-off for the Rosies.
The journey to the Capitol was not just a physical trip but a symbolic journey through time, recognizing the sacrifices and achievements of these trailblazing women. The Rosies, ranging in age but united in spirit, arrived in Washington, D.C., filled with pride and excitement. We helped get the Rosies settled in after their long trip, and later we filled the Hamilton Hotel with Rosie Spirit at the Welcome Reception on April 9th sponsored by the Boeing Company!
Celebrating Their Legacy
The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the impact these women had on our nation. It was attended by lawmakers, dignitaries, Rosie families and supporters who have long advocated for this recognition. The Rosies were celebrated not just for their work during the war but for the enduring legacy they have left behind—a legacy of determination, resilience, and empowerment. The Congressional Gold Medal is one of the highest civilian honors in the United States, and awarding it to the Rosies was a momentous occasion.
The Celebration continued through the evening with a very special Gold Medal Dinner where we watched an address from Gary Sinise/The SInise Foundation and each Rosie was honored with their own Gold Medal replica.
The next day, the Rosies were treated to a VIP tour of the White House!
United Airlines also rallied and gave the Rosies a very festive send off as we left DC to return to the SF Bay Area, complete with a water cannon salute!
Stories of Courage
Each Rosie carries with her a unique story of courage and determination. From riveting in factories to welding in shipyards, these women broke barriers and defied stereotypes. Their stories serve as an inspiration to all, reminding us of the power of collective effort and the importance of gender equality.
Looking Forward
As we honored these remarkable women, we reflect on the progress we have made and the work that still lies ahead. The Rosies paved the way for future generations, and it is our privilege to honor their legacy by advocating for women's rights and opportunities in all fields.
